Dundee landlord FAQs
Does the Renters' Rights Act 2025 apply to Dundee landlords?
No. The Renters' Rights Act 2025 is England-only legislation. Dundee landlords operate under the Private Housing (Tenancies) (Scotland) Act 2016, which introduced the Private Residential Tenancy (PRT). PRTs are already periodic with no fixed term, no Section 21 equivalent, and possession requires a notice citing one of the Scottish statutory grounds served through the First-tier Tribunal for Scotland.
Do Dundee landlords need to register with Landlord Registration Scotland?
Yes. All landlords letting residential property in Scotland, including Dundee, must register with Landlord Registration Scotland and keep their registration current (renewable every 3 years). Operating without registration is a criminal offence and may prevent you from serving valid tenancy notices. If you use a letting agent to manage the property, the agent must also be registered under Letting Agent Registration Scotland.
